John W. Stroehlein

John W. Stroehlein, age 70, of Pinckneyville, IL, died at his home on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at 6:55 a.m.  John was born in Cobden, IL on February 28, 1933 the son of Louie and Ruth (Lence) Stroehlein.  He married Janice J. Miller on April 24, 1958 in Mt. Vernon, IL and she survives.  John had retired in 2000 as a Lieutenant with the Illinois Dept of Corrections at the Menard Correctional Facility in Chester, IL.  He was also formerly the manager of the Daniels Grocery Store in Pinckneyville, IL and a former supervisor for the Blue Bell packing plant in Du Quoin, IL.  When he was younger, John was active with the youth Khoury League Baseball Program in Pinckneyville.  Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Pinckneyville, IL, 2 sons, John D. Stroehlein and wife Kathy, and Louie H. Stroehlein and wife Marcie, all of Pinckneyville, IL.  2 daughters, Laura D. Stroehlein of Palatine, IL, and Christine Lively and husband Tom of Pinckneyville, IL.  A sister, Alberta Harris of Alto Pass, IL, 2 brothers, Raymond Stroehlein of Tucson, AZ and Ralph Stroehlein and wife Wilma of Cobden, IL.  7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Stroehlein, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Stroehlein.  Funeral services were held at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Kirk Steele officiating.  Interment was in the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery in Pinckneyville, IL.  Visitation was at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, March 21, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 22, 2003 from 8:00 a.m. till services.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials are made to the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Oncology Unit or Hospice of Perry County.
